Mrs. Flint sent me these pictures and I thought you may be interested in seeing them. Turkey season started in our area and many people are excited about getting out to go hunting. Lexi actually used a 12 gauge shotgun to shoot this bird. If you don't know much about shotguns, that is a powerful gun for a petite girl like Lexi! The turkey weighed 17 pounds and had a 4 inch beard. A very impressive hunting trip, Lexi!
Remember, Benjamin Franklin once wanted the turkey to be our national bird......Here is some information on that:
Turkey: The National Bird?
Ben Franklin thought the North American wild turkey should be the national bird. Of course, the turkey of his day was nothing like the domesticated descendants we know today. The wild turkey of Ben Franklin's day was a brightly plumed, cunning bird of flight.
Unlike eagles, turkeys live in flocks. Imagine seeing a flock of birds as large as turkeys flying across the sky. It must have been a wondrous sight. Wild turkeys have longer necks and legs as well as smaller breasts than turkeys bred for the table. The true American turkey was "wild and wary to the point of genius," said author G. T. Klein.

A letter from Ben Franklin to his daughter about his desire to make the turkey the national bird.
Enjoy the pictures and the information!

Terrific, Lexie! The photos were very nice! For Spanish people it is so weird to see a teenager using firearms...hunting is not allowed in Spain for a girl your age. And then...I have never met a girl hunter so....AMAZING, Lexie!!! and I really hope you enjoyed eating it afterwards too!(I'm afraid I don't like bullfighting either).
hey Lexie! that was kinda cool! (even if i never will be able to do it, i don't like firearms :P)
